Netflix's Malcolm & Marie will sign up for its home at Netflix in a couple of days. Ahead of its release, Emmy-winning Euphoria actor Zendaya is doing all she will to verify her fanatics are familiar with the significance the film holds.
Written and filmed during the preliminary months of quarantine, Zendaya and Tenet actor John David Washington painting the characters of Malcolm and Marie. Although Sam Levinson is credited with the screenplay and route, the black-and-white movie was a collaborative effort between the actors and the group.
In an interview with Good Morning America previous as of late, the actor shared an insight into the black-and-white film and published how Malcolm & Marie was written for her and John David from the very starting.
Why Malcolm & Marie Filmed In Black-And-White
One of the preferred questions surrounding the movie comprises the explanation behind it being filmed fully in black-and-white. The artsy-looking trailer made lovers surprise why that was, and Zendaya has now given us a solution!
The Spider-Man 3 actor shared there was extra to the decision of filming in black-and-white rather then it being "just pretty" and "beautiful". "It adds timelessness to it," she stated.
The actor printed, "There was a thought also about reclaiming the narrative of black and white Hollywood and black actors really having their moment at that time..."
"We weren't as present in the black and white era," she mentioned.
Zendaya discussed that several black filmmakers in the past had filmed in black-and-white for the same reason.
She mentioned that even though it wasn't a new thought, the workforce sought after to"Pay tribute to that era and reclaim that beauty and that elegance with these two black actors [herself and John David]."
The Film Was Written For Them
Zendaya also published how Malcom & Marie was written for John David Washington and herself. She were talking with Sam Levinson (who created Euphoria) and so they had "a lot of creative discussions", which helped him come up with the concept.
Describing the process of writing the film, she mentioned "He would write 10 pages at a time, call me, we'd discuss it."
"The only person in his brain that he could think of while he was writing this film was John David Washington, so he wrote it for us."
"We did it all together," the actor mentioned, who is also a producer on the film.
Malcom & Marie might be streaming on Netflix on February 5.
