However, his explanation wasn’t enough for fans, some of whom turned to social media to question what was going on with the former Disney star.

There’s been speculation that Efron was trying to hide plastic surgery. He’s been accused of altering his appearance before, so the glasses could’ve hid the results of a procedure that went wrong and/or was still healing and thus noticeable.

Efron Has Admitted To Struggling With Substance Abuse Before

However, other fans speculation that Efron’s behavior was a consequence of substance abuse, something he’s admitted to struggling with in the past.

“It’s a never-ending struggle,” Zac said in 2014 of a rehab stint he did the year prior. “I was drinking a lot, way too much.”

“I had done films back-to-back-to-back. I was burnt out,” he continued. “There was something lacking, some sort of hole that I couldn’t really fill up. I was just so deep into my work, it was really the only thing I had.”

I wouldn’t take anything back; I needed to learn everything I did.”

“I just started going, and I think it’s changed my life,” Efron added. “I’m much more comfortable in my own skin. Things are so much easier now.”
