Matt James and Rachael Kirkonnell found love on The Bachelor – or afterward, technically – but they’re yet to get engaged. However, Matt recently explained why he’s not in a rush to get down on one knee.

“We’re doing great. I feel like when you feel pressure, it’s when you don’t wanna do something. So I’ve never really felt pressure [to get engaged] because it’s something that I’ve always wanted to do,” he told Us Weekly.

"The Bachelorette" stars Bryan Abasolo and Rachel Lindsay's relationship is over but it's "awkward" still having to live together.

Why Matt James Hasn’t Popped The Question

“And it’s something that we’re gonna do at some point. That’s why we’re together and what we’re working toward. I’m excited about our future,” he added, assuring fans an engagement is in the cards.

One good sign is that James already has ideas for how he wants to pop the question, admitting he’s going to do something creative.

“She asks a million questions. …, ‘Why are you asking me to get my nails done? Why are we doing this?’ She’s just so intuitive that it’s gonna be tricky,” he explined. “It’s gonna be tough because she needs a reason why we do anything — and not a crazy reason, [but] just to know why.”

He added, “She never does something just to do it. So when that happens, I’ll have to think outside the box. I’ll have to stretch the truth on why we’re doing something.”

Rachael Won Matt’s ‘Bachelor’ Season

Matt James and Rachael Kirkconnell met on the 25th season of The Bachelor, where James served as the franchise's first Black male lead. During the season finale, James gave his final rose to Kirkconnell, choosing her over runner-up Michelle Young.

Their relationship faced significant challenges, including a major scandal involving resurfaced photos of Kirkconnell attending an antebellum-themed party in 2018, which prompted a widespread discussion about racism.

Despite breaking up briefly after the controversy, James and Kirkconnell reconciled and have since been working on their relationship. Given the reality star’s recent comments, the couple seem to be stronger than ever.

Kaity Biggar’s Life After Winning The Bachelor 2023, Including Her Long Engagement To Zach Shallcross, Isn't What Fans Expect

What has Kaity Biggar been doing after starring in The Bachelor 2023 and are she and Zach Shallcross getting married soon?

Bachelor Nation has seen several stars get engaged after their respective seasons concluded, often reigniting fan excitement, so Matt and Rachael aren’t the only ones taking their time.

One notable couple is JoJo Fletcher and Jordan Rodgers, who got engaged during the finale of The Bachelorette Season 12 in 2016. Despite facing public scrutiny and occasional breakup rumors, they have remained together and celebrated their engagement (again) with a lavish party in 2019.

Another fan-favorite couple is Rachel Lindsay and Bryan Abasolo, who got engaged on The Bachelorette Season 13 in 2017. They married in a romantic ceremony in Mexico in 2019, though they announced their divorce earlier this year. In fact, Rachel recently expressed regret over not getting a prenup before they tied the knot amid reports her ex is hoping to win spousal support. Their divorce remains ongoing.
